Let’s talk about mental health, let’s talk about therapy, let’s cross the boundaries of shame and fear. And yes, I know this is a public blog, and exactly that’s why I want to talk about this topic. We do live our lives and part of this is, that we do work to gain money, but we can’t live and work well if our life is affected by something. Mental health is not just something, but one of the important parts of ourselves, which impacts us and our lives.
Therapy is tough, dealing with our failures isn’t easy. Understand where these are coming from and how they impact you is even harder. Fathoming the origins, allowing the emotions, giving in to the tears and enduring the emotional pain, all this is exhausting and draining. At the same time, it helps to heal, in minimal steps, it helps you to understand yourself better and, ultimately, it does you good.
I celebrate/reward myself after every session with a good coffee and something sweet. During this, I process the first time, the first of many times because that is also part of the process and almost more essential than the sessions themselves.
Why I talk about it so openly because we tend to dismiss therapy as something negative. Because we think that others can think badly of us. But we also go to the doctor when our arm is broken. Nobody is ashamed of that. And we also need a doctor when our soul is broken.
Be kind to yourself, especially in the upcoming days, which can be very stressful with traveling to the family or having the family in your home or because you are alone.
